A radio that has a battery as a back-up, isn't suitable because it still needs AC to run. Older radios are better than newer ones because they have analog tuning, and they tend to be bigger. This is important. I forgot to mention this in class - analog tuning is important here...none of those digital presets and scanning.
It does not have to be solely AM, FM is good too.
But it does have to be solely battery powered, no AC stuff here.
